Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Recovery Peer Support Specialist to help individuals with substance use or mental health disorders in their journey towards recovery. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support, guidance, and motivation to individuals who are struggling with addiction or mental health challenges by utilizing their own lived experience to connect, communicate and inspire recovery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
– Build and maintain positive relationships with individuals in recovery, offering support and guidance as needed.
– Use personal lived experience to establish common ground and to motivate others on their path to recovery.
– Collaborate with and help individuals navigate healthcare systems, as well as connect them to community resources, support groups, and other recovery programs.
– Function as an advocate for individuals in recovery, helping them to identify and obtain objective goals.
– Work collaboratively with other care members and supervisory staff to develop, implement and evaluate individualized recovery plans.
– Assist in creating and organizing recovery groups sessions or support groups.
– Conduct ongoing assessments of individuals’ goals, determining ongoing support-based interventions, and monitoring progress towards goals.
– Monitor attendance and evaluate engagement, providing feedback to individuals as necessary.
– Plan and coordinate the program’s activities. This includes developing a program schedule, coordinating with program partners and stakeholders, and ensuring that all program goals and objectives are met.
Requirements:
– Lived experience and personal recovery journey with mental health and/or substance use disorders is required.
– High school diploma, GED or higher education equivalent.
– Certified Peer Specialist certification is a plus, but not required. Peer Support Training will be provided.
– Excellent communication, interpersonal and listening skills.
– Empathy and experience working in a team-oriented environment.
– Must have a driver’s license, reliable transportation, and liability insurance.
– Must pass a background check and drug screening assessment.
– Familiarity with electronic documentation systems, including electronic health records and virtual remote telehealth programs.
Compensation will be proportional with experience and qualifications, beginning at a base rate of $25.00/hour.
